Research background:

Currently, bedridden patients in awake coma are mainly in home nursing care of family members, requiring 24/7 care. As part of the care, they are exposed to external influences (food intake, medication) but also to changes in the internal environment, which are recorded through various sensors (cardio, saturation, ...). Changes in the patient's reactions to external and internal influences are identifiable within the records of individual parameters, while most caregivers (especially family members) are unable to see marginal changes in data records that can predict a positive or negative change in the patient's condition. These changes can cause stress reactions in caregivers, especially in the case of unexpected data. The reason for conducting the research is to create predictive AI models and display data using AR for caregivers, so that negative reactions can be prevented and errors in nursing care for the patient can be reduced.

Target group of the research:

1. Patients in conscious coma in home nursing care - Improving health status by identifying patterns and non-standard data using AI.

2. Patient caregivers (family members) - stress and error rates in nursing actions will be reduced.

Characteristics of the research organization:

Pan-European University in Bratislava

The mission of the university is to prepare university-educated experts capable of satisfying social demands at a high professional level and responding to the challenges and needs of current social development and knowledge. The development of basic and applied research brings theoretical and practical knowledge that allows not only to improve the educational process, but also to enrich the scientific knowledge of the relevant scientific disciplines at the national and international levels.

The implementation of full-fledged scientific work ensures the systematic introduction of its results into the content of study programs at all levels of study. An important task of the university is to ensure the qualification growth of university teachers and researchers with the aim of continuously improving the quality of educational and scientific research activities of its faculties. The school develops cooperation with other university and scientific institutions at home and abroad through exchange and study stays of teachers, students and researchers with the aim of mutually enriching each other with experience from pedagogical and research activities.

The university provides education and conducts research through its faculties. The Pan-European University is made up of: Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Mass Media, Faculty of Informatics and Faculty of Psychology. As part of its educational activities, the faculties provide higher education in 21 study programs of the I., II. and III. levels of higher education.

As part of their research, the faculties conduct basic and applied research through projects supported by various grant schemes and their own resources.

Collaboration:

As part of our research activities, we collaborate with the Alan Alexander Foundation, doctors and researchers in Slovakia and abroad.
