Intelligent analysis of the reactions of patients in awake coma

Code

Duration

10/2024 - 06/2025

The aim of the project is to develop informatics methods for analyzing the reactions of patients in a conscious coma who are placed in home care, respecting the health complications and diseases that these patients have. As part of the project, we will propose methods based on artificial intelligence in which we will use patient data obtained by dense continuous sensing of various biological and non-biological signals, mainly by non-invasive methods, based on which it will be possible to analyze patient reactions to external stimuli, or to stimuli from the patient's internal environment when eating, reactions to administered medications, and the like.

By creating a model, we will predict patient reactions, which may result in simplifying the care of patients in such a state (they are dependent on 24-hour help and support from their family members). As part of the research, we will focus on the individual condition of patients and propose options for adapting the created artificial intelligence model in connection with the long-term manifestations of individual patients.

The advantage of dense continuous recording of various data (ECG, EEG, saturation, pressure, EDA, HRV, CRP,...) is the possibility of accurately identifying the patient's reaction over time to various stimuli related to external stimuli, but also to the state of the patient's internal environment.

The project was supported by the Tatrabanka Foundation within the DIGITAL Education 2024 call.
